1942SER O NO SER

Lugar y fecha de nacimiento. Jack Benny (1894 - 1974) Comedian Born As: Benjamin Kubelsky Born: February 14, 1894, Waukegan, IL Died: 1974 His unpromising career as a violin player was interrupted by WWI, during which he discovered his knack for comedy while serving in the Navy. Returning to civilian life, he appeared in vaudeville, at first using the stage name Ben K. Benny. Made his first film appearance in 1929 but gained stardom on radio and later repeated his success on TV. On the air and in films he was characterized as a self-deprecating, violin-playing, wisecracking miser, aided by black valet Eddie Rochester Anderson. Benny's comedy style was based on perfect timing and supreme use of the pause for milking laughs. Contrary to his professional image as a vain, selfish, and stingy man, Benny was in reality among the most generous and modest people in show business. He had been married to radio performer Mary Livingstone (Sadye Marks) since 1927. Among his best film vehicles were CHARLEY'S AUNT (1941), SER O NO SER (1942), and GEORGE WASHINGTON SLEPT HERE (1942). Eternally 39, Benny died of cancer at eighty, ending one of the most durable and influential careers in American comedy. His widow published a memoir, Jack Benny, in 1978.
