Leonard then returned to the New York stage to star in the Riverside Shakespeare Company's production of Romeo y Julieta (1990) and on Broadway in The Speed of Darkness (1991). 1993 marked a banner year for Leonard, who moved firmly into leading roles as a jazz-crazy youth in 1930s Germany in SWING KIDS (1993), a more adult role as a troubled newlywed in CASADOS ENTRE SI (1993) and as the love-struck Claudio, in Kenneth Branagh's MUCHO RUIDO Y POCAS NUECES (1993).
